We hand-checked 4,900+ of the best places to run across Europe
Stricca now knows thousands of genuinely notable, OpenStreetMap-verified places to run and walk across dozens of European countries — so "take me somewhere scenic" actually means something.
"Take me somewhere nice" is only useful if the app actually knows what's nice nearby. So we built it a memory.
Stricca now carries 4,923 curated highlights across 42 countries — hills, waterfalls, lochs and lakes, coastal paths, gorges, waymarked trails, river paths, country parks and landmarks worth routing past. When you ask for "the river," "a viewpoint," or "somewhere challenging," it draws you by the real, named places that fit.
Every coordinate is real
This is the part most "AI" features get wrong. We never let a model invent a location. The names come from research, but every single coordinate is verified against OpenStreetMap before it's allowed in — and anything that can't be confirmed, or lands outside the country, is dropped. The dataset is also de-duplicated by name and by location, so you don't get the same hill twice under two spellings.
Built region by region
In the UK we went deep — a pass for every county and the big cities at neighbourhood level. Across the rest of Europe we did a broad first pass, one focused sweep per country, with the same verification and de-duplication. It keeps growing, and we densify the places people actually run.
The result: wherever you are in Europe, "surprise me with something scenic" gives you a real route past a real place — not a generic loop. Describe your run; we'll bring the local knowledge.
